Post 52: Starting to regret this

By July, I was starting to wish I hadn't set the bar so high with the third-car garage stall. Sanding joint compound overhead in triple-digit weather is a shit job. But it was also too hot for a pity party, so I soldiered on.

I took a break from sheetrock and started painting the wall and the upper part of the ceiling (so I could put the lights and fans back up).

I forgot that I tried to do a little flip-book action series here. Must have been bored.

Post 51: Because reasons

I was going to work on other things in the garage during the month of June. Fun things, like maybe fixing my air compressor and setting up my shop air lines, or building shelves on the walls that were finished. But instead, and probably wisely, I decided to forge ahead and try to finish the rest of the garage before shifting to other projects. So I got going on the south wall.

First, demo. Working around the water softener lines (and the Ford's exhaust system) was a pain. I knew I wanted to move the water softener drain and the sprinkler valve timer wires to de-clutter the wall.

Started in with the wiring. Just like the north wall, I added a fair number of 110V outlets and one 220V, then moved the sprinkler wires so that the timer could be mounted by the garage door opener button instead of right where a cabinet or shelf would go on the south wall.

Insulated everything, of course. Only a little bit of the south wall didn't get insulated, because I didn't feel that moving the water heater out of the way was worth it. That went quickly and I started on the sheetrock. I decided to use 5/8" on this wall because 1) that's what was up there before, and since I was only doing most of the wall instead of all of it, I knew there would be seams that would match up better with the same panel thickness, and 2) that wall gets the most sun, and I figured an extra 1/8" of insulation couldn't hurt.

That wraps up June.

Post 50: Garage, interrupted

I tried to keep the momentum going in May, and got some sanding and painting done on the ceiling. But then it was weekend after weekend of swim meets, weddings, and working on other projects at home, like rebuilding my pool solar system. The garage project stalled for a bit.

Post 49: This f*cking blog continued, man

Finished up the trim, covered the wire runs with thin plywood instead of sheetrock for easy removal (hopefully never), painted everything.
